Virat Kohli moved to second place, narrowing the gap to Shubman Gill at the top of the ICC men's ODI batting rankings, the latest update shows.

The International Cricket Council released the rankings on Tuesday, confirming that Gill retained the No. 1 spot while Kohli earned enough points to close within a handful of runs.

Kohli’s ascent follows a string of strong innings in recent series, which the ICC said boosted his rating.

Among bowlers, Keshav Maharaj rose to third, Kuldeep Yadav climbed to fifth and Josh Hazlewood entered the top ten at No. 10.

"The rankings reflect the players’ recent performances across all ICC‑sanctioned matches," an ICC spokesperson said.

Other notable shifts include England’s bowler Mark Wood moving up to eighth and New Zealand’s Tim Southee dropping to twelfth.

The updated list will influence seedings for upcoming bilateral series and the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

Cricket analysts note that Kohli’s proximity to Gill could intensify the competition for the top spot as both players prepare for the upcoming tour of England.
