New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Friday they will issue state‑of‑emergency declarations ahead of a weekend nor'easter expected to affect the region.

Emergency orders announced

Hochul posted on social media that she is declaring a state of emergency for Nassau, Suffolk, New York City and Westchester counties as the storm bears down on the area. She added that the declaration will enable officials to mobilize resources and coordinate response efforts.

Murphy announced that New Jersey will follow suit, granting state agencies broader authority to protect public safety and support local jurisdictions as the weather system moves inland.

What the declarations enable
