The SUV is slated for international market launch in early 2027 and will replace the ID 4 and ID 5 in the automaker’s electric lineup.

Design and dimensions

The ID Tiguan features a completely new exterior, with slimmer headlights and a redesigned rear‑light cluster. Alloy wheels up to 21 inches will be offered.

At 4,628 mm long, the model is 44 mm longer than the ID 4, which measures 4,584 mm. Width and height remain similar at 1,852 mm and 1,639 mm, respectively, with a 2,765 mm wheelbase. Volkswagen says the extra length translates into a more spacious cabin.

The interior will bring back physical controls for certain functions, including steering‑wheel buttons and a separate dashboard control set.

Battery options and expected range

The ID Tiguan will sit on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, shared with the ID Polo and Škoda Epiq. It will retain the 58 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery and the 77 kWh nickel‑manganese‑cobalt pack used in the ID 4.

The smaller battery is expected to power an entry‑level version, while the larger pack will equip Pro and dual‑motor Pro 4Motion variants. The ID 4’s 58 kWh pack delivers a WLTP range of up to 364 km; the 77 kWh pack offers between 512 km and 572 km, depending on configuration.

Power output across the ID 4 range spans 170 hp to 340 hp. Volkswagen has not confirmed the final specifications for the production‑spec ID Tiguan, including exact range and peak output.

Market positioning

By adding the ID Tiguan, Volkswagen aims to broaden its electric SUV offerings while keeping the conventional Tiguan available with combustion and hybrid powertrains.

A Volkswagen spokesperson said the company “expects the ID Tiguan to meet growing demand for larger electric SUVs.”
